Vendor Registration FAQ


What is an Artisan?
On My City Artisans, it is somebody who creates one-of-a-kind items, and sells them as a vendor on our site.

How can I register as a vendor?  
Registering as a vendor is very easy. In just minutes you can create your store, all you need to do is click on Login/Register and fill in the required information.  
What is included in my membership?
Membership includes the following:
  • Your own page where you can upload up to 200 items.  On top of that, you get an additional 2 pictures per item...that is a total of 600 pictures!!
  • You will be able to sell your products directly to the buyers.  No middle man/woman.  No commissions to pay out! 
  • You will be able to read and participate in marketing tips and ideas. 
  • A chance to be our “Featured Artisan” .
  • A monthly newsletter and frequent emails full of tips and advice.
We are always adding more benefits to our membership, so stay tuned for more!!   
Can I link my website or Facebook page to your site?
Definitely, in your User Profile, there is a tab to include your website address and your Facebook link.   Be sure to keep the link in the format of: www.facebook.com/my store.  There is no need to add: http.
How many pictures can I upload on my page?
You can upload a maximum of 200 items.  You can add two more photos of each item, totalling a maximum of 600 pictures.
Can I cancel my account any time?
Yes. 
If I cancel, can I create an account again?
Yes you can.  You can always restart your business with us again, but none of your previous information will have been saved.
Can the creators of My City Artisans cancel my account without my permission?
Yes.  If you register with www.mycityartisans.ca but do not upload any photos or have a bio photo, your account will be deleted after 30 days.  You must have at least 1) A bio photo  or  2) At least one product photo uploaded onto your shoppe.
My Shoppe is not appearing on the Artisans List.  Why not?
Most likely, you have not entered your "Store Name".  Your webpage will not appear on the list unless you have filled in your store name.
 
Products FAQ
What kind of products can I sell?
We will only allow products that meet “My City Artisans" criteria.  Basically, the items you sell MUST be handmade and MUST be created by the seller.
What is "My City Artisans" criteria?
The purpose behind My City Artisans, is to help Artisans showcase, promote and sell their creations.  We are looking for original, one of a kind products.  Items that you have made and created.  Please refer to our Vendor's Agreement link at the bottom of our page for a detailed list.
If you have any doubt about whether or not your products are acceptable, please email us with a description of your products, and/or photos.  All pages or products that do not meet our approval will receive a warning and are subject to removal. 
What I am not allowed to sell?
We hate to state the obvious but...you cannot sell: (Please refer to the Vendor's Agreement tab for more details)
  •     illegal and stolen items, of any kind
  •     items offensive to any culture, religion or nationality
  •     items that incite violence and hatred 
  •     harmful and dangerous items
  •     any items from endangered species
  •     anything that does not meet the "My City Artisans criteria"
Does it have to be handmade?
The products do not have to be entirely handmade. However they have to be created by the Artisans. No mass produced items are accepted. If you have any doubt about whether or not your products are acceptable, please email us with a description of your products, and/or photos.  All pages that do not meet our approval will receive a warning and are subject to removal.

Is there any commission charged?

No, there is no commission or registration fee charged from us.  However, PayPal does take 2.9% + 0.30 cents off each transaction you make.  That is part of PayPal's fee structure and is not controlled or directed by My City Artisans.  Please refer to PayPal's website for their Terms & Conditions by visiting www.paypal.com.  My City Artisans is entirely free to join and sell from.

Can I sell somebody else’s products?

No, you have to be the "Artisan".
 
Classes
Can I advertise my classes on My City Artisan?

Yes.  We are developing a special page for any type of artistic classes such as painting, dance, music, etc.  For the time being, you can advertise your classes on our regular vendor page.  Here you can show photos of your classes and offer pricing and information.

Will my photos still show up on the front page?

Yes, the photos under My City Gallery are showcased from everyone's pages at random.
Do I still need Paypal if I am just showing my classes on the site?
No, paypal is there for your convenience, it is totally optional.
 
Purchases, Shipping and Payment
 
How safe is it to shop on your site?
Shopping in our site is extremely safe. We do all of our transactions through "Paypal". We do not store any credit card information on our site. You will be redirected to PayPal's secure payment gateway to make your transactions.   For more information regarding Paypal, we encourage you to visit their site at: www.paypal.com.  
What if I have a problem with my buyer?
All communication with your buyers, in regards to shipping and return policies are up to you, the Vendor.  My City Artisans is not responsible for any miscommunication.  Under some circumstances you can contact us and we can see if there is anything we can do.
 
What if I try to resolve a problem with my buyer, but they become unreasonable?
You have every right to contact us if you feel we can help.  My City Artisans reserves the right to mediate in any buyer and/or vendor disagreements.
What kind of payment should I accept?
Each "Artisan" will set up their own store within "My City Artisans".  Please communicate carefully with Paypal so that you understand what types of payment you can and will accept. As well, be aware of Paypal's transaction fee structure, which is not directed by My City Artisans. 
If I need to return an item what can I do?
The first thing you need to do is to contact the "Artisan" directly to the email provided.  Each artisan is responsible for their own return policies. We encourage you to read their policies before purchasing an item.
What are your shipping and return policies?
Each Artisan is responsible for their own shipping and return policies.  As a vendor, please make sure your policies are clear to buyers. As a buyer, make sure to read all vendor's shipping and return policies prior to making a purchase. If you still have questions, it's in your best interest to contact the vendor directly for further clarifications.  My City Artisans does not act as the  middleman and we will not mediate any disputes arising between buyers and vendors.
How long does shipping take within Canada?
You must ask the Artisan this question.  Each Artisan is responsible for shipping their own items. Please carefully read their shipping policies posted on their own page.  My City Artisans does not act as a middleman. 
Do you ship internationally?
You must ask the Artisan this question.  Each Artisan is responsible for shipping their own items. Please carefully read their shipping policies posted on their own page.  My City Artisans does not act as a middleman.
What if the product I receive is damaged?
You need to contact the Vendor that you purchased it from.  Make sure to check or inquire about their return policy prior to purchase.  My City Artisans does not act as a middleman.
How am I going to get paid for the products that I sell?
You can choose to get paid directly using your Paypal account.  You must set up either a premier or business Paypal account which is free.  If you don't already have a Paypal account, you will be directed to their site during the registration process when you sign up with My City Artisans.  You will require your Paypal Secure Merchant ID to be entered into your Update Paypal Info to activate your Buy Now button on your vendor page.  When buyers click on your Buy Now button on your page, they will be taken to PayPal where the transaction occurs automatically.  You will receive email confirmation from PayPal about the transaction details.
Do I have to sell through your site?
No, you don't have to sell through the site. 
What does it cost to become a Vendor on your site?
To become a vendor on the site is totally free! However, you must comply to all of our rules and regulations.  Read more in our Become a Vendor and our Vendor's Agreement section.
What if I want to cancel my page? 
If you choose to cancel your page on our site, please send us an email at info@mycityartisans.ca with details about your store and vendor name so as we may deactivate your account.   
"My City Artisan" FAQ
Can I apply to be the My City Artisan more than once?
You can apply. There is no guarantee that we will feature you more than once.  We try to feature all of our "Artisans" fairly and equally.
Is there any  fee to be featured as a City Artisan on the front page?
No, there is no extra fee.
For how long am I going to be featured?
In general we will try to leave the City Artisan on anywhere from a week to a month.  It all depends on the number of Artisans on our site.  We reserve the right to change the City Artisan at our discretion and without notification.
Are my products going to be featured as well when I became the feature artisan?
We don't have a spot where we feature your products.  The City Artisan box will link to your store as well as your website, if you have one.
What do you need from me for the City Artisan?
We need to conduct either a phone or email interview with you.  You will also need to submit a photo of yourself.
When will I be featured?
The time and frequency of when you will be featured depends on the number of Artisans we have on our site.  My City Artisans will be picked randomly.   
 

Graphic Material FAQ

Who owns the copyright of my pictures, logo, text and all the graphics on my page?
You own the copyright of all of the graphic and text material you provide on your store, or any other page of My City Artisans, including but not limited to, the Blog, Newsletter, Twitter and Facebook. 
When deemed appropriate, My City Artisans may share/post photos and written content from your vendor page to our Twitter, Blog, Newsletter and/or Facebook pages, as well as any other promotional materials and media we may choose, to promote the site and its vendors.  My City Artisans will not use your material for third party advertising or for any other purpose not originally intended for without your prior written consent.
